Commonweal of Bolinas
“On behalf of the staff members, board of directors and many visitors to Commonweal, I want to thank you and PIA Cares for the wonderful gift of indoor plants. They are just extraordinary. It is hard to put into words the visible difference they make.” Charlotte Brody

Commonweal is a nonprofit health and environmental research institute in Bolinas, CA. Founded in 1976, Commonweal conducts programs that contribute to human and ecosystem health — to a safer world for people and for all life. The program is focused in four areas:

  1. Helping people with cancer through the Commonweal Cancer Help Program, a weeklong residential support program for people  with cancer, and through the Commonweal Cancer Project, our resource and educational work for cancer patients and health professionals.
  2. Helping physicians, medical students and other health professionals who wish to restore the principles of healing to the practice of medicine and practice with a deeper sense of meaning, satisfaction and lineage.
  3. Helping children and young adults in the juvenile justice system through the Commonweal Juvenile Justice Program, which advocates for reforms in the California Youth Authority.
  4. Supporting local, national and international initiatives that contribute to human health and a healthy environment.

PIA Cares team members installed plants in the facility’s administrative center.

"It is wonderful working with other PIA members in a common goal of making  our communities better in a small way.  I love the synergy of all the elements of the projects falling into place, our generous vendors donating  valuable plant materials and   containers.  These deserving non-profits would never be able to afford what I term 'luxurious necessities.'"   Matthew Gardner
