Rady Children's Hospital San Diego | |||||||||
| “The interior planters in the main entrance to Rady Children’s Hospital – San Diego have never looked better. Having them professionally maintained by dedicated people who have such obvious pride in their work has made a significant difference in providing a warm, welcoming entrance to the hospital. The beauty of nature is a wonderful stress reliever.” Tim Jacoby | |||||||||||

More than 13,000 boys and girls were admitted
to Rady Children’s as inpatients last year, and there were 192,000 visits
to outpatient and specialty clinics. During the workweek, nearly 80 surgeries
are performed, ranging from relatively simple outpatient procedures to
at least one complex heart surgery each day. Research involving hundreds
of children in some 70 clinical trials stimulates medical progress nationally
and internationally. And each workday, more than 700 children will see
a specialist for a consult, expert opinion and/or diagnosis. Over the years, the organization has developed into a vigorous health care system. In addition to the main hospital in Kearny Mesa, Rady Children’s and its affiliated organizations provide specialized care and treatment in more than 35 facilities throughout the region. It is the only hospital in the region dedicated exclusively to caring for kids. At Rady Children’s, interactive artwork lines the hallways. Playrooms are busy – and noisy – places. Stars twinkle indoors. Puppies come to visit. Healing gardens beckon. Musicians, clowns and storybook characters are apt to pop up in corridors and courtyards. PIA Cares volunteers provided an upgrade to the facility’s planter beds to help further the cause of Rady Children’s goals. "After having spent some time at Children's Hospital when my oldest son was younger, I was able to see first hand the great people at Rady's who make a difference in the lives of children every day. It was an obvious choice for PIA Cares. It was fun to get to do plantscaping with some of my favorite competitors. I want to thank all of the vendors and local plantscapers who continue to provide plants and service for this project." Tim Higgins
