PIA Cares

The PIA Cares program is the brainchild of Lori Townsend, president of AddLife, Redwood City, CA. PIA Cares (now an official program of PIA) brings together plantscapers and vendors with one common goal... provide a no-cost plant installation in a facility occupied by a non-profit, people-caring organization that understands the value of, but lacks the ability to pay for, having plants enhance their environments. Some examples might be public nursing facilities, abused children's homes, volunteer health services, and the like.

An adjunct to the installation is the enlistment and training of volunteers from the recipient organization to maintain the plants... horticultural therapy in action. The program not only enhances otherwise drab interiors but affords a public forum to further the concept that plants are a necessary addition to all interior environments.

Pot A Plant is the current focus of PIA Cares. Pot A Plant volunteers create, supply and staff at booth at Special Olympics event around the United States. Interested in turning these amazing atheletes on to the fun of growing indoor plants? Contact PAP National Outreach Director Greg Eberly.

This site documents the PIA Cares installations completed to date and is dedicated to all of the program's participants... past, present and future... who have given generously of their products, time and efforts. If it weren't for these individuals, PIA Cares would not exist.
